Whorton-Eales continues on Clio Cup Championship Quest with Donington podium

Lichfield’s Ant Whorton-Eales followed on from the opening weekend at Brands hatch with a successful weekend at local circuit Donington Park.

After Thursday’s practice sessions the KX Akademy driver was showing great promise ahead of Saturday’s qualifying. Ant went on to continue his great run by qualifying in 2nd place for race 1 which took place on Sunday.

The 19 year old drove a brilliant race which put him on the podium with a 3rd place finish. Race 2 saw Whorton-Eales start from 5th on the grid and he certainly provided the large crowd at Donington with an absolute thriller of a race, at one point dropping back from 3rd to 7th then battling back to challenge for 3rd once again. Ant eventually finished the race in 4th place to complete a 1,2,3,4 for SV Racing and the KX Akademy.

This was certainly a productive weekend for Ant who managed to climb the championship table from 7th to 3rd in just one weekend. This is something that has really got the young BRDC Rising Star excited for both the next round of the championship which takes place at Thruxton in just under two weeks time and the rest of the season ahead.

‘Donington was a mega weekend! The KX Racing SVR Clio was set up perfectly every outing so I was able to fight right at the front. To be able to move up to 3rd in the championship this early in the season is ideal. I am really looking forward to Thruxton, hopefully I can carry on the momentum of 3 top 4 finishes in a row. Consistency is the key to become a champion and we are definitely on track!’
