Whorton-Eales fights back in challenging first race weekend

After a disappointing opening race to the season on Saturday Lichfield based Ant Whorton-Eales fought back to produce a nail biting second race on Sunday.

Whorton-Eales started from sixth on the grid for Sunday’s race knowing he had every chance of a podium finish and showed crowds he had definitely found his feet following race one’s trials and tribulations. Ant showed great race pace and was not only able to pass team mate Cook but showed what he was really capable of by breaking away from the others to both catch and pass Smith then pull in the leading trio who had been nose to tail for the duration of the race. He then showed his never say die attitude by spending the closing laps of the race challenging Bushell for third place.

Ant ended the race with a 4th place and a Graduate Cup win, he currently stands 7th in the Championship and we cannot wait to see what other edge of the seat moves he has to offer us for the 2014 season.

The 19 year old has definitely forgotten about Saturday’s setbacks and has his sights firmly set on rounds three and four which will take place on 19th & 20th April at Donington Park :

‘Obviously Saturday’s race didn’t go according to plan. We had a bad start which dropped me right down in the field and the pack was too far ahead for me to catch up by the end of the race. Race 2 I had a much better start. The front 4 broke away when I was stuck behind Cook but once I passed I was able to claw back time on the leaders. The SVR boys did a fantastic job and the car was set up perfectly. Once on the back of the leaders I was able to challenge for 4th and finish right behind 3rd across the line. I am definitely looking forward to Donington and on the back of Sunday’s performance I hope to be right up there and produce a double podium, this is something I need to achieve in order to close the gap in the overall championship points between fellow KX Akademy member Alex Morgan and I.’
