Delight for Ant Whorton-Eales with KX Akademy Boost

Lichfield’s ‘Race Ace’ Ant Whorton-Eales has received a triumphant boost to his 2014 season preparations, after being re-selected as one of the 5 drivers for the Jason Plato backed KX Akademy. He will also, as part of the initiative rejoin the newly rebranded SVR Clio Cup team for a 2nd season having raced for Westbourne Motorsport in 2012, his rookie year.

The 19 year old fought off fierce competition from hundreds of applicants that were then with a lot of deliberation whittled down to 12 finalists to earn his place on the programme, further recognition of the teenager’s ability and potential, to go alongside the BRDC Rising Star he was awarded at the beginning of 2012.

As part of the KX Akademy, Whorton-Eales will receive funding towards his 2014 campaign and have regular meetings alongside his fellow Akademy members to help him develop further with race and sports psychology, mental and physical preparation as well as media training. Ant will also benefit from the mentorship of one of the British Touring Car Championship’s (BTCC) greatest ever drivers Jason Plato.

Plato who holds the record for the most wins in the BTCC and is a two times champion was also involved in the selection of the 5 KX Akademy members, proof that Ant is grabbing the attention of those at the pinnacle of British Motorsport.

‘ This is a chance for me to continue growing as a driver both on and off track, and to expand further on the skills that the KX Akademy helped me to gain last year. I am proud to represent and promote such a good scheme and demonstrate what a great help it is to young drivers such as myself. Being associated with KX also provides me with added drive to perform at the top of my game as I would love to be able to carry the KX branding to a championship win.’

‘Returning to SVR is also something that excites me. To be with Danny Buxton, and the rest of the team once again is a great prospect. Their experience in the Clio Cup racing along with the knowledge and experience I have gained in the past 2 seasons, plus the support of the KX Akademy, One Lux, SSFT, and the team I have helping and advising me behind the scenes, will ensure I have the best opportunity to be in contention for the 2014 Clio Cup Championship.’

‘ It’s now down to me to prove to the KX Akademy and sponsors that they were right in choosing to support me once again.’
